Bryce Dessner

Bryce Dessner, known to many as a guitarist with Grammy-nominated band The National, is one of the most sought-after composers of his generation, with a rapidly expanding catalog of works commissioned by leading ensembles.

The music of Bryce Dessner – labelled “gorgeous, full-hearted” by NPR and “vibrant” by The New York Times – is marked by a keen sensitivity to instrumental colour and texture. Propulsive rhythms often alternate with passages in which time is deftly suspended. It is these features that have caused his orchestral, chamber, and vocal compositions to be commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Metropolitan Museum of Art (for the New York Philharmonic), Kronos Quartet, New York City Ballet and many others.

His pieces being used for TV shows such as Conan and Grey’s Anatomy as well as films including John Wells’ The Company Men (2010), Dessner is also a go-to address for Film and TV scores. Dessner was also tapped, along with Ryuichi Sakamoto and Alva Noto, to compose the score for the upcoming Alejandro González Iñárritu film, The Revenant, slated for release in January 2016. On top of that, Dessner has contributed to the soundtracks of Warrior (2011) and St. Vincent (2014) with The National.
