Bio

Pioneering conceptual sound artist, Scanner (Robin Rimbaud) has been producing challenging yet stirring soundscapes for three decades.

After composing the soundtrack to short film, A Horse With No Name (1986), which premiered at the London Film Festival, Scanner went on to reinterpret the music to Jean-Luc Godard's 1965 sci-fi classic, Alphaville. The artist playfully presented the piece through 16 simultaneous global performances, employing look-a-likes to appear in his absence.
In 2004, the Tate Modern commissioned Scanner to produce Sound Surface – the London gallery’s first ever sonic installation. Meanwhile, his musical output has found its way on to the soundtracks of numerous films including Maria Marshall’s psychodrama, Startled (2012), and harrowing Nigerian short, Lack of Evidence (2011).
Scanner counts among his many former collaborators musicians Michael Nyman and Bryan Ferry, filmmakers Steve McQueen and the late Derek Jarman, and choreographers Wayne McGregor and Merce Cunningham
